- HERE ISA Map provides fresh and accurate speed limit information, with comprehensive coverage across the globe
- 9 of the top 10 major automakers and a dozen of their sub-brands chose the HERE ISA Map to meet European Union (EU) compliance, equipping new passenger and commercial vehicles in the EU with ISA features by July 2022, and all newly registered vehicles by July 2024
HERE Technologies, the leading location data and technology platform, took home the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) & Autonomous Product/Service of the Year Award at the Informa Tech Awards in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, June 7. The award recognizes the HERE Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) solution, which delivers location and speed limit information directly to driver assistance systems, improving driving efficiency and safety.
The ISA Map informs drivers of the speed limits on the roads they are driving, warns them if they are exceeding the speed limit, and can even be programmed to prevent them from going over the speed limit.
While vehicles equipped with forward-facing in-vehicle cameras can detect speed limit signs, the embedded HERE ISA Map provides the speed limit information to the Electronic Horizon system to give drivers speed limit information beyond the line of sight of vehicle sensors. In addition, the ISA Map also provides accurate speed limit information regardless of whether speed limits are sign posted, or if weather and other conditions impede sign visibility.
“By putting accurate speed limit information at the center of this ADAS solution, we are giving drivers important speed information at all times and beyond their line of sight,” said Joel Brush, Senior Director and Head of American Automotive and Industrial Sales at HERE. “The HERE ISA Map provides scale, flexibility and cost savings for OEMs looking to roll out this key safety feature.”
HERE is currently working with 9 of the top 10 OEMs in the EU and a dozen of their sub-brands to meet compliance, including equipping new passenger and commercial vehicles in the EU with ISA features by July 2022, and all newly registered vehicles by July 2024. In addition, the ISA Map provides a set of data that enables an ISA implementation for all vehicles, even when the vehicle has no navigation capability.
“ISA represents an important ADAS feature that puts driver assistance into all new vehicles in Europe. In building consumer trust, it is the next step in our evolution to automated driving,” said Philip Hubertus, Director of Product Management at HERE. “This information can also be used for other important features and speed control functions like adaptive cruise control, which frees the driver to focus on the road ahead.”
