Engineers wanted: digital mapping and location data specialist HERE Technologies invests in Kraków
HERE Technologies, a leading location data and technology platform, today announced plans to form a new R&D lab in Kraków, Poland. The company plans to hire up to 300 software engineers at the site over the next two years, with a target to have 50 in place by the end of 2022.

From its origins designing digital maps of the Bay Area of California in 1985, HERE Technologies is a global industry leader in digital mapping. Today, more than 1,300 enterprise customers source map data and location technology from HERE, including the world’s largest logistics companies, automotive brands like BMW, Volkswagen and Ford, and technology companies like Amazon Web Services and Verizon. The company’s platform is used to guide automated vehicles, track goods in real time, and support last mile logistics. Today, with its headquarters in the Netherlands, HERE employs approximately 7,000 people.
HERE plans to develop its Kraków lab into a new R&D hub alongside its core R&D sites in Chicago, Berlin and Mumbai. The core sites are complimented by a network of specialized HERE R&D labs around the world.
The assembled Kraków team will work on the company’s strategic engineering initiatives. Chief among them is the development of a new, highly automated mapping system that transforms how the company creates and updates digital maps. The new mapping system and technology will be key to serving emerging ‘spatial intelligence’ use cases, such as digital twins, autonomous systems and predictive location services.
