Australian outback journeys made safer and more efficient

Even in regions off the beaten path, Isuzu Australia trucks are able to complete their jobs quickly.

Freight volumes in Australia are expected to increase by 8.4% by the end of 2022, according to Isuzu's Future of Trucking Report — aligning with the Australian government's forecasts of significant growth in road freight by 2030.

As business confidence starts to pick up post-pandemic and fleet services increase in demand, fleet operators are now seeking road transport equipment with increased safety and efficiency in mind.

To help, HERE is partnering with Isuzu Australia — the country's leading heavy commercial vehicle brand — to deploy HERE Navigation, an off-the-shelf navigation solution for embedded in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platforms.

All new model year 2022 F Series, FX Series, and FY Series are set to benefit, as the connected in-vehicle navigation system is able to reach even the most remote areas of the Australian outback.

By using mobile phone data from a tethered smartphone, Isuzu truck drivers will automatically receive only the latest, most accurate maps, live traffic and recommended routes to complete their jobs quickly.

This fully integrated solution will be deployed via Isuzu's embedded IVI platform — the MyIsuzu Co-Pilot — with drivers receiving on-the-go guidance for safe driving.

HERE Navigation gives us the flexibility and agility required to offer one of the most interactive and competitive navigation experiences on the market. HERE's accurate maps and location data further allow us to connect with our drivers on the road — even in remote areas across Australia. When it comes to connectivity, Isuzu strives to be flexible and offer our customers the right data to meet their specific business needs. HERE Navigation allows us to do just that with a fresh and innovative approach, and also opens us up to more opportunities to strengthen our connected services offerings in the future.

The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)-like nature of this solution also means that Isuzu has potential new revenue streams through on-demand sales functionality. Isuzu has the freedom to decide which part of the entire navigation experience they want to offer to drivers as standard or offer additional services through a pay-to-unlock model.

The Australian truck and road transportation industry is going through major changes exacerbated by the pandemic. With road freight demand expected to increase in the coming years, it's important that provide technology to ensure that drivers are driving safely and efficiently. We're proud that HERE is able to support Isuzu as it continues to expand its fleet operations in Australia and cement its position as the country's truck market leader.
