Artificial intelligence (AI) powers HERE’s mission to build the world’s most advanced digital map and location technology. We use AI to automate map creation, enhance location intelligence, and make journeys more intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable. But for us, AI has always been more than just a technological capability, it has been a responsibility.

HERE’s AI journey began long before AI became a buzzword. In 2021, HERE introduced its dedicated code of ethics for AI that defined the core principles of trustworthy AI. This code has guided our work for years and remains the foundation of our approach to AI today.

This charter strengthens our foundation by ensuring that, through our AI Management System and ISO/IEC 42001 certification, these values are embedded in every AI solution we deliver.

We lead with responsible AI

At HERE, we believe innovation without responsibility is not progress. Since publishing our code of ethics for trustworthy AI in 2021, we have embedded safety, fairness, transparency and accountability in every AI system we build and use. This commitment is realized through our AI Management System (AIMS), independent oversight, and ISO/IEC 42001 certification, ensuring trust is designed in from the start and sustained throughout the lifecycle of our products.

We use AI to make maps better and richer and the way you use them smarter

Beyond that we apply AI to powers intuitive, context-aware interfaces that make journeys smarter, more personal, and easier to plan, thereby redefining how users experience navigation. We extend these experiences beyond static routes, using AI to deliver dynamic, context-aware suggestions that adapt to individual’s preferences and schedules. While our technology makes planning effortless, people remain in control at every step. At the same time, we make our rich location data more accessible and actionable, enabling customers and developers to seamlessly integrate it into their own AI-powered applications.

Anchored in the HERE Privacy Charter and strong data governance, we collect and use data only for clear, specific purposes, limiting processing to what is strictly necessary . We ensure accuracy and lineage to uphold fairness safety and auditability, while embedding security at every layer, from encryption and access controls to continuous monitoring and vulnerability management, so our customers can trust their data is protected at all times.
