Greater comfort and safety
BMW has chosen HERE as the location navigation system for its Connected Navigation Services (CNS) in a multi-year agreement that will see its drivers benefit from HERE Real-Time Traffic, and provide them with up-to-the-minute information on road conditions and incidents.
The technology will be integrated into BMW models produced from 2020 onward. And 750,000 existing cars produced in 2018 and 2019 will receive an over-the-air update, switching the systems automatically from the previous traffic provider.
HERE Real-Time Traffic gives drivers live updates on traffic — including congestion and potential hazards — and can re-route drivers to help keep them safe and on time. There's also a predictive traffic forecast, enabling drivers to work out the fastest route before they even get into the car, via a companion app, as well as information on lane closures and traffic flow for specific lanes, including high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes.
Being selected by BMW as a global traffic provider is an important milestone for us as we continually enhance HERE Real-Time Traffic in order to help make driving safer and more comfortable for millions of drivers globally. Providing a precise ETA based on historic and predicted traffic conditions is a crucial part of a great driving experience. Serving as the basis for many other driving use cases, HERE Real-Time Traffic is a critical component of our comprehensive portfolio of connected driving solutions.
HERE Real-Time Traffic analyzes data from a sophisticated mix of sources, including high-quality vehicle sensor data from multiple automotive brands. The result is best-in-class accuracy in the depiction of real-world traffic conditions and a smarter and safer driving experience. The service is used by leading automotive manufacturers, companies across the transportation and logistics and mobility sectors, as well as by app developers around the world.
