Supply Chain 5 min read

For Sensos, supply chain visibility isn't the finish line—it's just the start

Losing track of assets in today’s supply chain isn't just frustrating. It’s incredibly expensive.

In fact, global supply chains lose an estimated US$1.3 trillion every year. That’s US$43,000 gone every second—often due to delayed shipments, missing equipment or simple miscommunication. And as geopolitical uncertainty grows and logistical networks become more complex, keeping track of critical tools and products is more challenging than ever.

For many companies, these issues aren't just technical problems—they’re real operational risks. That’s why a global equipment provider, teamed up with HERE Technologies and Sensos, experts in real-time supply chain visibility, to rethink how high-value repair tools are tracked and delivered.

Keeping a finger on the pulse

When you’re dealing with the transportation of specialized tools—some worth up to a million euros—keeping tabs on where everything is can be a real headache.

These tools don’t follow a predictable route. They hop from one job to the next, often skipping central hubs entirely. That kind of constant movement makes it easy for equipment to get misplaced, which can severely disrupt operations and rack up costs.

The original tracking system, built with HERE for equipment replacement parts, worked well for shipments going to one fixed location and had a 30-day battery life. But tools that move around all the time need something different—a solution that can keep up with their more flexible, on-the-go use.

That’s when the global equipment provider turned back to HERE for help—and that’s where Sensos came in.

Small label, big picture

At the core of this collaboration is Sensos’ compact, highly cost-effective credit-card-sized smart label. These labels redefine efficiency with extended battery life of up to three years, making them ideal for tracking tools that travel extensively.

Equipped with a wide range of advanced sensors and connectivity options, Sensos Labels collect comprehensive data including location via Wi-Fi, GPS and cellular networks, as well as temperature, pressure, shock, humidity and more.

Thanks to a cloud-to-cloud connector, this information seamlessly integrates into HERE Tracking, creating a centralized system for real-time visibility.

"Good things come in small packages," said Eran Minhar, Head of Marketing at Sensos. “If it can be shipped, it can be tracked.”

Precision tracking, no cape required

Sensos’ solution stands out for its seamless integration with HERE’s technology.

With HERE Network Positioning, different tracking devices can plug into the same system without hassle, giving users a clear, real-time view of where their equipment is.

Another feature that really makes a difference is HERE Indoor Point of Interest (POI). It uses smart Wi-Fi fingerprinting to find tools not just in a building, but right down to the specific floor or room. Even better, it doesn’t need any extra hardware or setup, which is a huge win for industries with tight budgets and timeframes.

HERE also provides geofencing capabilities, which means the system can send alerts when important tools or equipment move in or out of certain areas, like building entrances.

“You are Bruce Wayne,” said Minhar. “We are just providing you with the right tool belt to help you become Batman.”

Sailing across vast oceans, Hapag-Lloyd's container ships power global trade, combining tradition with cutting-edge logistics innovation for a connected world.

Taking the lead

The new collaborative solution is already making a difference. By bringing Sensos into the mix, the global equipment provider is solving everyday problems like short battery life, inefficiencies and the need for more flexible tools. Now, engineers working on vital equipment can count on their tools showing up on time—fully monitored from shipping to return.

Looking ahead, there are already plans to introduce features like machine learning to better predict arrival times.

The system is also being adapted for other industries where timing is critical and equipment is costly, such as logistics operations requiring rapid deployment of tools or urgent repairs by field service engineers.

In any sector managing high-value, time-sensitive shipments, this technology offers a clear path to greater efficiency, reduced waste and improved financial performance.
