HERE WeGo Pro: say goodbye to HazMat headaches with our latest update

Thanks to the latest HERE WeGo Pro rollout, truck drivers can now avoid restricted areas and navigate safer, compliant routes with ease.
When you're hauling hazardous materials, every decision matters. Heavy city traffic, shifting regulations and restricted zones mean that the wrong turn could put safety—yours and everyone else's—at risk.
That’s why we’ve improved HERE WeGo Pro with a game-changing update: to help you plan safer, compliant routes with less hassle, whether you're carrying fuel, chemicals or anything in between.

For trips from Downtown San Francisco to Oakland, HERE WeGo Pro automatically reroutes drivers to avoid restricted crossings like the Bay Bridge.
HazMat hassles
Designed specifically for the transportation and logistics industry, HERE WeGo Pro simplifies route planning for professional drivers. Unlike typical navigation apps, it acts like a true co-pilot—built around your fleet’s needs—making life easier for drivers, managers and customers alike.
The highlight of the new update is the app’s ability to manage routes for vehicles carrying hazardous materials such as explosives, flammable liquids, poisonous chemicals and radioactive substances.
By going to Settings and selecting Hazardous Materials, drivers can toggle on the specific goods they are transporting. The app then adjusts the route dynamically to bypass restricted zones, offering a safer, more compliant journey.
According to Andrea Rossi, Senior Product Manager at HERE, addressing safety and compliance for hazardous goods was essential.
"We rolled this out because it is a key feature needed for proper, safe and legally compliant truck navigation,” Rossi explained. “Our customers told us that a subset of their fleet or the goods they transport required specific handling. While it wasn’t critical for most to start using the app, they wanted this functionality soon after.”

In Melbourne’s busy CBD, for example, drivers can now rely on HERE WeGo Pro to automatically steer clear of restricted routes, making navigation safer and more compliant.
High stake freight
Transporting hazardous goods comes with challenges. Routes often traverse cities with strict regulations, complex restrictions and road limitations. "Without proper planning, drivers might enter areas where hazardous freight is prohibited, risking substantial fines or worse, safety breaches,” Rossi explained. “This feature ensures trucks stay on compliant paths and avoids restricted routes altogether."
By integrating with HERE SDK, the app uses robust map data to embed road-level restrictions directly into its routing algorithms. "HERE SDK uses comprehensive map content that encodes hazardous restrictions directly into the navigation system,” said Rossi. “When a user selects a hazardous material, the app knows how to route accordingly, ensuring compliance."

Trucks transporting water-polluting substances in Berlin must steer clear of certain roads — a task effortlessly managed by HERE WeGo Pro’s HazMat feature.
Worldwide woes
Each city presents its own routing challenges. In Berlin, for example, trucks carrying water-polluting substances must avoid specific roads — something HERE WeGo Pro’s HazMat feature handles seamlessly.
"HERE WeGo Pro ensures that routes automatically avoid these restricted areas,” said Rossi.
He also pointed out that this feature is visually intuitive, allowing drivers to see restricted zones on the map, helping them better understand their routes.
Safety you can trust
More than just legal compliance, HERE WeGo Pro’s HazMat feature is fundamentally about safety. "When you’re transporting explosives or poisonous materials, safety is paramount. This feature ensures that drivers don’t accidentally enter high-risk areas," said Rossi.
The app also includes a warning system that alerts drivers in cases where a violation might occur. This proactive measure reinforces safety not only for the driver but also for the surrounding community.
"The ability to plan safer, compliant routes reduces risks, enhances overall safety and alleviates stress for drivers. It’s designed to empower them to make responsible choices in navigating city landscapes," Rossi noted.
