The Layers panel lists the data sources included in the active map style.

Layers are made up of multiple categories, separated by techniques. A technique defines how a data source is drawn on the map, such as line for roads and polygon for landuse areas.

The icons next to the layer names represent the technique being used to draw the layer. You can filter the layers list using the corresponding buttons at the top of the panel.

Base map and overlays

The layers are divided into two main sections: Overlay and Basemap. Basemap represents elements for common map use cases, such as background areas, road lines and labels. Overlays are layers displayed on top of the basemap for specific use cases. The overlays and some basemap layers can be enabled or disabled.

Notes:

• Style Editor exports the custom styling of all layers and overlays, regardless of whether they are currently enabled in the application.
• To enable these optional layers in your end user application, please refer to the respective SDK documentation.
• Transit line colors that have been defined in the data itself cannot be modified in the Public Transit overlay by the HERE Style Editor. All other transit line colors are customizable.

Grouping

Several layers are grouped by data source. Click the dropdown arrow or double-click the layer name to reveal its grouped categories.

Layer types

• Water - Polygon, lines and labels for water layers
• Terrain - Special elements for visualizing altitude differences
• Land Cover - Polygons and labels for the land areas behind other land elements
• Landuse - Polygons and labels for areas such as parks, universities and forests
• Administrative Places - State and country boundaries, and place labels
• Roads - Road network elements such as highway lines and street name labels
• Road Exits - Markers for exits from major road vias
• Rail - Rail network elements
• Ferry - Ferry route elements
• Ski - Special ski resort elements
• Buildings - Extruded buildings, footprints, building name labels and house numbers
• POI - Labels for points of interest such as airports, museums, and tourist attractions

HERE SDK - POI label colors
SDK Navigate
The following POI categories can be styled from the Attributes panel, but will currently not appear in the mapview in Style Editor:

• Accommodation
• Automotive
• Eat & Drink
• Shopping

Note that this affects the Style Editor mapview only. HERE SDK Navigate applications will still contain all POI categories, and the styling performed in the Attributes panel on those categories will still be exported. This POI disparity in the mapview will be addressed in a future release of the Style Editor.

SDK Explore
For SDK Explore applications, the categories listed above do not appear in the mapview.
