Introducing the new HERE SDK for Flutter (Beta)

Introducing the new HERE SDK for Flutter (Beta)

Last week we announced the release of our new HERE SDKs for Android and iOS. This was exciting news for us and hopefully for you! However, the more eagle-eyed among you might have noticed that we also quietly released the Beta version of another new SDK. Today we are making it official.

We are excited to announce the release of our brand new HERE SDK for Flutter (Beta). This SDK is built on the same code base as the HERE SDKs for Android and iOS. All new SDKs have been rebuilt from the ground up for your coding pleasure and are backed by more than 30 years expertise in mapping and location technology. They enable you to give your users access to the latest mapping data as well as your favorite location services from HERE, including Maps, Search, Directions and Traffic.

The DevRel team has received many requests for a Flutter SDK, particularly at hackathons and many mobile-related conferences we have attended, so this is a particularly exciting release for us.

So, how do you get started?

As with our Android and iOS SDKs, the easiest way to get started is to go to GitHub and check out our new HERE SDK Examples. The readme.md has all the info you need to get your first example up and running!

If you want to build something from scratch or integrate the SDK into an existing application, you should head over to the HERE SDK documentation and check out the Get Started section.

Either way you’ll need a set of credentials, so go ahead and sign up for a Freemium account!

We’d love to hear your feedback, so join us on the HERE Developers Slack channel, follow us on Twitter or leave your comments below.

Which editions of the SDK are available for Flutter?

The HERE SDK for Flutter is available in Explore and Navigate editions.

Is the Flutter SDK part of my Freemium plan?

Yes. The HERE SDK for Flutter Explore Edition is part of your Freemium plan. The Navigate edition is currently available on request.

The HERE SDK for Flutter is in Beta. What does that mean exactly?

First, you may run into some bugs. Second, the documentation is not complete yet. And finally, there is still some chance of API changes.

How long will the Beta period for the HERE SDK for Flutter last?

We expect the beta period for the HERE SDK for Flutter to last until Q3. This is subject to change.
